The Law of Evidence has a very crucial role to play in determining the rights and liabilities of the parties in litigation. It is a very important medium for the implementation of substantive and procedural laws. Before entering the world of legal profession it is extremely necessary for every law student to understand the dynamics and the inherent technicalities of the Law of Evidence. To make this possible what is required is a simple and comprehensive book on the Law of Evidence. It is precisely to meet this requirement that Universal have come out with a students edition on "The Law of Evidence."
It gives me immense pleasure in presenting the revised students edition of Justice Monir`s work on the Law of Evidence. There have been innumerable books written on the subject of Law of Evidence but Justice Monir`s work on the subject occupies a unique place amongst all, The book is rich in case law and the commentary given on each section speaks volume about the writing skill of the author. The sixth edition of this book was published in 2002 as Short Edition for lawyers and now the seventh edition has been revised keeping in view the need of studens.
While revising the book care was taken in retaining the original style of the book. Thus all important legal pronouncements, both English and Indian, have been retained in the book. Relevant new case law has been added. With the objective of making this edition student friendly, wherever required, the language of the book has been made simple. The development of Law of Evidence with respect to, for example, circumstantial evidence or the effect of presumptions in cases of dowry deaths or the softening of the rule of corroboration in dying declaration cases has been dealt with clarity precision.
