The purpose of the General Clauses Act is to place in one single statute different provisions as regards interpretations of words and legal principles which would otherwise have to be specified separately in many different Acts and Regulations.
The General Clauses Act, 1897, has been enacted to shorten the language of statutory enactments and to avoid superfluity of the language in statute where it is possible to do so. There is a large volume of case of law on General Clauses Act which has been reviewed Systematically and incorporated, whereevere possible, the language and words employed in the judicial decisions, have been reproduced to lend full and complete authenticity to the commentary on the subject.
