This compendium provides the most exhaustive coverage of all the rulings of the Supreme Court on the Evidence Act, 1872 from 1950 till 2014† alongwith the full statutory text of the Evidence Act.  The SCC Editors have made all the efforts to extract every possible ruling of law that may be relevant to the Evidence Act, 1872, thus making this compendium the most comprehensive source of rulings of law on the Evidence Act by the highest court of the land, the rulings of which are binding in the whole country. Furthermore, this digest has been interconnected with related rulings of law covered in Supreme Court on Criminal Procedure Code and Criminal Trial and Supreme Court on Penal Code.

Supreme Court on CRIMINAL PROCEDURE CODE & CRIMINAL TRIAL

The digest covers the entire law on CrPC and Criminal Trial as laid down by the Supreme Court, from its inception in 1950 till 2014*. Since many rulings and principles cannot be docketed under the provisions of CrPC they have been placed under the non-statutory topic heading Criminal Trial. Where the number of rulings under any section of CrPC or set of sections of CrPC is large, they have been placed under topic headings and a synopsis added for quick reference. A few sections of CrPC have been treated collectively like Sections 125 to 128 CrPC which deal with a Magistrate’s power to award maintenance, Sections 155 to 159, 161 and 162 CrPC which deal with the power and conduct of investigation by police to enable systematic and convenient research on the provisions of law contained therein.

Supreme Court on INDIAN PENAL CODE

The digest covers the law on the Indian Penal Code, 1860 as laid down by the Hon’ble Supreme Court since 1950 to date 2014*. A new feature of the second edition is that the text of all the sections of IPC are also given in these volumes, thus making it a complete source of law on Indian Penal Code. Furthermore, particularly for those sections of IPC where the number of rulings is large, the same have been placed under numerous sub-headings mentioned in the synopsis. Sub-headings under a section or a set of sections have been interconnected through internal cross-references. Besides using the topic and the statute approach, it is also possible to conduct search through the Table of Cases Digested of all the four volumes.
