Overview:

This is one of the greatest classic works on the subject. First published under the Tagore Law Lectures series, the work was widely acclaimed and is even today recognised as the best work on the subject.

In order to retain the authenticity and original flavour of the work, the present edition has been printed verbatim to the original. References to passages from the text will therefore be the same, and the book can be cited as the original work itself.

The provisions of the Indian Penal Code remain almost unchanged since the time the book was first published. The excellent enunciation of the principles of Criminal Law by the learned author is therefore relevant even today. However, the book has been made useful in current context by adding an introduction giving up-to-date position of the law.

Reviews

  • Indian Law Institute: A special quality of the work is the clarity of perception of the principle and its education with highly apt illustrations. It is clear that only a master of the subject, both in its theory and practice of the times, could have presented the material in such a form.
  • Gujarat Law Reporter: This series will surely enable the jurists and the student world to understand and grasp the principles of law of crimes.
  • Academy Law Review: ...A masterpiece and reliable text of valuable information. The book under review is a valuable work in the area of the substantive law of crimes. The general scheme and arrangement of the book are commendable.
  • Criminal Law Journal: The lucid discussion of the principles with reference to leading cases on the topic is very helpful to lawyers and more particularly to students of law. The book contains index of cases cited and topic-wise index adding to the utility of the book.
  • Kerala Law Times: The principles enunciated by the learned author hold good as master pieces and a resourceful text of valuable information.
  • Cuttack Law Times: To the student of criminal law this will be a bible to know the fundamental principles of crimes.
